Beastie Boys will be honored as Webby Artists of the Year at The 11th Annual Webby Awards on June 5th in New York City, organizers announced today. The group will be recognized for the 2006 concert film, “Awesome, I F***ing Shot That.”
The film was taped by audience members using hand-held cameras that the Beastie Boys provided them with.
“From the Internet to video to music, Beastie Boys have created a totally unique, two-way relationship with their fans,” said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. “They embody the kind of collaboration and exchange of ideas that the Web is all about.”
Beastie Boys will be saluted alongside Webby Awards winners in a wide range of categories from Blog to Fashion to Weird, as well as three other Special Achievement honorees - David Bowie (Webby Lifetime Achievement), the eBay community and CEO Meg Whitman (Webby Lifetime Achievement), and YouTube co-founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley (Webby Person of the Year).
