Etta James Slams Beyonce Says, ”She Gon Get Her Ass Whipped” For Performance At Obama’s Inauguration
Etta James, 71, born Jamesetta Hawkins has caused quite an uproar with remarks she made while performing on last week. The blues/soul singer stated, “You guys know your president, right? You know the one with the big ears? (‘Yeah we know’em!’ [the crowd shouts with cheers]) Wait a minute, he ain’t my president, he might be yours — he ain’t my president. But I tell you that woman [Beyonce Knowles] he had singing for him singing my song, she gon’ get her ass whipped. The great Beyoncé … she ain’t mine… but I can’t stand Beyoncé. She had no business up there, singing up there on a big ol’ president day … gon’ be singing my song that I’ve been singing forever,” Etta James said in the midst of screams and cheers from the crowd.
Although Etta James may be a little upset, people are now stating that she may even be a little more upset because she actually didn’t write or sing the song first which seemed to may have been written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Orchestra Wives. But it would be hard to argue that James didn’t make the improvised song popular during her reign in the 60′s.
Beyonce who played Etta James in the movie Cadillac Records has yet to make a comment after she was given praise from James previously. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama’s camp has stated they were stunned at James remarks.
Since news and audio of her shocking remarks began circulating, James has since reportedly claimed that she was joking.
