Jabrai Jordan Copney, a New York City songwriter, credited with writing the 2004 New Edition song “Feelin It” along with Ryan Leslie, is being charged with the fatal Harvard University shooting of a 21-year-old man on Monday, May 18 at a Harvard University dormitory allegedly over drugs.

Copney, 20, reportedly turned himself in to authorities at the Cambridge Police Station Thursday around 7:00 p.m. and has been charged with murder of Justin Cosby, 21, accessory after the fact to murder, and possession of a firearm, according to Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone.

Justin Cosby, reportedly, was selling drugs (marijuana) to students at Harvard which it is was reported Tuesday that Cosby had been arrested for Class D drug possession. Cosby was shot on Monday afternoon after three men, the defendant, Jabrai Jordan Copney, and two others traveled to Cambridge from New York City with the intention of robbing Cosby.

After the shooting, Copney, who has a reported girlfriend who’s a senior at Harvard University, and the two other assailants are believed to have taken a cab from Cambridge, where the shooting occurred, to South Station where, that night, he attempted to evade capture in New York, according to prosecutors.

Copney, a graduate of the School of Performing Arts high school in New York, who wrote for popular 1980s R&B singer group New Edition reportedly still is a professional songwriter. Ironically, Copney’s father is reportedly a retired New York police officer.

Cosby who reportedly left the Kirkland House after being shot and stumbled to a intersection of nearby streets, Dunster Street and Mount Auburn Street, died early Tuesday morning (May 19) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after being shot once in the abdomen, according to his mother, Denise Cosby.

In an interview, his mother Denise Cosby stated she saw her son for the last time Monday afternoon with his longtime girlfriend who he left with and said he’d be back soon, but she learned around until 8 p.m. that he had been shot.

Reportedly, police are still searching for two other suspects in the shooting that shattered the serenity of the Hardvard campus where students were studying for finals.

Meanwhile, Jabrai Jordan Copney is scheduled for a hearing in the shooting, regarding probable cause, on July 15.
