Kendrick Lamar remembers recording his first song with Dr. Dre from his album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, which was “Compton.” Kendrick Lamar has made a big name for himself, especially since he just debuted.

He made a huge hit with his Aftermath Record boss Dr. Dre with his recent debut album. In a recent interview with the UK’s i-D MAgazine, the TDE emcee remembers first meeting with Dr. Dre and their earliest work together.

Kendrick Lamar explained that he remembered not to be nervous when he first met with Dre, saying that he was more excited to work with him. To him it even meant that he had finally gotten his chance at success. His first encounter was their first time recording together, which they made the Just Blaze-produced song “Compton.”

“I was very excited when I first met Dr. Dre, I wasn’t nervous at all. I was more excited because I knew that this was my shot,” he said. “Everything that I worked for, everything that I built up to came down to that moment…that moment, I recorded my first song with Dre, which was ‘Compton,’ which is the last song on my album, good kid, m.A.A.d city.”
